Homeowners are responsible for the sewer and water lines located between their dwelling and the city-owned infrastructure.
In most cases, city responsibility ends 5-10 feet in from the street at a point called the curb stop.
If you are the one mowing your lawn, you may have noticed the curb stop (sometimes they’re buried).
The actual connection between the city to homeowner lines is somewhere between 7 and 11 feet down from this point.
When something goes wrong with either line, there's no time to shovel.
Earth Tech will get the repairs done quickly and with minimal disruption, so that you can get back to easier living.
How Do I Know If My Sewer Line Is At Risk?
Well, if you are snaking your sewer line yearly to remove tree roots, then you may want to seriously consider a preventative replacement.
The sewer line is already compromised and it isn’t going to get better.
And it isn’t going to send you a friendly heads-up text before failing.
Sewer backups are no fun.
The age of your line is another important factor.
If your home was built before 1980 (roughly) the sewer line that was installed is almost certainly either no-corrode (aka Orangeburg) or cast iron. These are the pipe materials that builders used back then. Both eventually end up rotting due to ground chemistry.
We use only the latest, city-approved sewer line materials.
Any Other Advice?
Yes, actually.
We recommend that homeowners check with their insurance broker to see if their coverage includes Sewer and Water line replacement. Some policies offer this and the rates are generally affordable.
