We also advocate for preventative replacement, when sensible.

Which of these best describes your need?

Residential

Homeowners are responsible for the Sewer and Water lines located between their house and the city-owned infrastructure.

The city infrastructure usually starts 5-10 feet in from the sidewalk at a point called the curb stop.

If you are the one mowing your lawn, we bet you know exactly where this is (sometimes they’re buried though).

The services themselves are actually right at the bottom of this point, anywhere from 7-11 feet down.

And when something goes wrong with either your Sewer or Water line, and it’s that far underground, you don’t want to be reaching for a shovel. You just want it fixed right away.

That’s where we come in.

Earth Tech will get the repairs done quickly and with minimal disruption, so that you can get back to easier living.

How Do I Know If My Sewer Line Is At Risk?

Well, if you are snaking or draining cleaning your sewer line yearly due to tree roots, then you should seriously consider replacement. This is because the line is already compromised.

It isn’t going to get better, and it isn’t going to text you before failing.

It’s simple. Sewer backups are no fun.

The age of your line is another important factor.

If your home was built before 1980 (roughly) and the sewer line has never been replaced, then it is really just a matter of time.

No-corrode (aka Orangeburg) and cast iron, the pipe materials that builders used back then, both end up rotting away due to moisture and ground chemistry. There is no getting around it.

It all really depends on how comfortable you are with risk.

At Earth Tech, we use only the latest in city-approved sewer line materials.

What About My Water Line?

In the fall of 2019, independent journalists published an investigative report concerning municipal water supplies.

It made big news right across Canada.

It showed that several cities, including Regina, have lead levels comparable to those reported in the Flint, Michigan crisis.

Following these reports, the City of Regina committed to accelerating it’s program to replace all the lead lines in the city water mains. (There are still quite a few.)

While this is comforting news, the city’s upgrades do not include the feed from mains to your home. That is your responsibility.

If your house was built before 1960 (roughly) and the water line has never been replaced, then it may very well be a lead pipe.

Watch this video to identify the type of pipe used to bring water into your home.

If you are looking for more information concerning the risks of lead in your drinking water, google has plenty to offer on the subject.

As always, we remain available to discuss options for upgrading your services.

So, Do You Have Any Other Advice?

Yes, actually.

We recommend that homeowners check with their insurance broker to see if their coverage includes Sewer and Water line replacement. Some policies offer this and the rates are generally affordable.

We also recommend taking into consideration the following Facebook posting from the city.
